In 2025, a trip to Boquete, Panama opened my eyes to the world of origin coffee. Struck by the passion and processes at Finca Casanga (Casanga Farm), I decided to go straight to the source and lease my own tree for the season. This is a running log of that 15-month sponsorship—from soil, to harvest, to cup in 2026.
January 6, 2026: The farm is preparing signs and tree assignments. Trees are being trimmed to five feet. I requested a tree in the sun.
January 2026: Camera systems were simplified and is using the Reolink app for remote viewing/monitoring. A specific sunny tree was assigned to me with the sign "Ron's Future Brew".
February 2026: A busy month of tree trimming. Trees are preparing to flower following recent rain.
March 2026: The trees are sprayed with micro-nutrients and a dose of zinc and copper, renewed borer beetle traps
April 2026: The coffee trees are thriving after a nutrient spray of magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and the farm is full of new life with blooming flowers, baby birds, and ducklings (pest controllers) expected any day. The farm is making major progress toward going solar with construction underway on the utility building.
